29. Juli
VAI
Schon die Strecke nach Osten - hinaus nach Vai - ist immer ein Erlebnis! Unmengen blühender Ginster- und Oleanderbüsche begleiten den Reisenden,
Gebirge türmen sich auf, kleine idyllische Dörfer liegen am Weg, liebliche Tavernen.
Grandiose Weitblicke über die Mirabellobucht - ein Muss für jeden Kretareisenden!
Um das alles aber auch genießen zu können, heißt es früh aufstehen,
man sollte spätestens um 10.30 Uhr in Vai sein, und die Fahrzeit von z.B. Malia beträgt an die 3 Stunden!
Vorbei geht's auch am wunderschön gelegenen Hotel Istron Bay*****,
das eine ganze Bucht für sich alleine nutzen darf, bis man dann nach ziemlicher Kurverei den Palmenstrand erreicht. Wir sind diesmal leider ein wenig verspätet dran (11.15), sodass doch schon eine Menge Autos den Parkplatz verstellen, und nicht wenige Badewütige bereits am Strand herumlungern oder sich im Meere suhlen.
Nach den obligatorischen Sponsorfotos
erklimme ich den nahezu vorgegebenen Fotopunkt, und obwohl schon viele Male dagewesen, gibt's immer noch interessante Bildwinkel zu entdecken - und nicht zuletzt - der Blick hinunter auf den Strand ist immer wieder ein Höhepunkt landschaftlicher Schönheit!
Anschließend laben wir uns im Palmenhain - es gibt nicht allzu viele Plätze mit diesem besonderen Ambiente!
Danach gehts an die Südküste.
Noch vor wenigen Jahren eine kaum befahrbare Staub- und Schotterpiste nach Xerokambos, jetzt asphaltiert und gleich hinter Xerokambos die Serpentinen hinauf ins Gebirge mit grandiosen Rückblicken auf das Dörfchen und die idyllische Bucht - am besten vom "Berserker"-Platz.
Nach 400 Tageskilometern und 2200 Gesamtkilometern gehts nun zum gemütlichen Teil - zum griechischen Folklore-Abend.

ad 28. Knossos
After tasting several drinks and meals (have a look to the pictures of the previous post) we fought us through the very narrow lanes of Myrtia, but then we found it - the new private museum of Nikos Kazantzakis - well made and very, very worth to visit!

28. 7. - Knossos
Today we ride to Knossos - one of the most famous historic places in the world! Sir Arthur Evans discovered it and made Knossos visible for millions of visitors. Though we come early in the morning, the onstorm is hugh! Behind each column you can see a red or orange cap! In each shadow asiatic people listen to their leaders. A very long snake always stands in front of the entrance to the throne hall with the chair of justice, though the heat was terrible - 32 degrees C! After making the typical pictures for our sponsor MANNER, we stroll through the scenery and think of the King Minos, the Minotaurus, Ikarus and other birds. In the pinetrees crouch the cicadas and cried like bulls (Minotaurus?).
Afterwards we visit the room with the bulljumpers, but the room is so overcrowded, that we look for the width.
I sweat like a pig and my friends too, so we leave the site after 2 hours and throw us a beer into the veins - or a second one - in a taverna on the other side of the throughwalkstreet.
We decide, to visit a wine village only one half hour away.
Afterwards we visit the room with the bulljumpers, but the room is so overcrowded, that we look for the width.
I sweat like a pig and my friends too, so we leave the site after 2 hours and throw us a beer into the veins - or a second one - in a taverna on the other side of the throughwalkstreet.
We decide, to visit a wine village only one half hour away.

27. Juli
Up to new doings!
On the way to Matala! We reached the beautiful beach, which is bordered from yellow rocks, at 10.15. Old hippies looked out of the caves, though it is forbitten to house there now, because they forshat the whole scenery! I did a lot of photos, then we checks us. We visited other interesting points of the south - such as Aghia Galini, and then the Monastery Arkadi. We were there at the best phototime, best light to take the pictures of this holy point.
Pictures will follow, also of the very nice waitress in Aghia Galini, which poors two beers over us, probably we looked out as dangerous ghosts.

26th, July
This was the day of the Sirs! We only drove to the center of Malia, where a special watching point is located. There You can see within a few minutes accidents, half naked younger people, drunken youngsters, very fat behindpieces - broader than the quads, which can be rent there. The quadriders drive without any knowledges of trafficrules, bad accidents fill the hospitals of the region. There we sat more than one hour - and saw all these things! Afterwards I visited a longtimeknown girl - now a wife with 2 cildren. She has a silver store on the mainstreet of Malia. After a second beer at the watchingcorner we strolled to the beach, where the common people stole God the day.
Back in the hotel at 14.00. Swimming in the sea and pool, preparations for the next day, camera service, ...
Powerful dinner - we beat us the bellies full!
Afterwards we sat in the houseown taverna and watched the peoples passing by - better than cinema!
